Knight of Swords

Quick Changes. Impulsive actions. An ambitious young man.

Tarot Card Interpretation

On this card we see a brave and impetuous knight on a quest, he boldly charges into the storm, riding resolutely his horse. Behind him we see a stormy sky with the wind blowing against him.

The horse’s harness is decorated with birds and butterflies to represent the element of air that characterizes the suit of Swords. This Knight is ready for battle but he must ask himself if he chose the right war. The Knight of Swords is intense and focused: he is so intent in his mission that he has turned his back to everything except his quest.

He is courageous and strong but his impetus is so powerful that we fear he won’t be able to sustain a long struggle, should the need arise. This knight is completely committed to his mission with the endearing innocence of youth.

He is so single-minded that he acts in the inspired way of the visionary and if all his energies are well channeled, he might be able to attain his holy grail.

Expect a sudden change and a blast of rejuvenating fresh air in your life. Swords may herald a period of struggle and rivalry when you need to be strong, assertive and fast acting. This card can also represent those argumentative people that are unconcerned about having a conflictive attitude and actively look out for occasions to aggressively defend their ideals.

They actually enjoy getting into conflict with current opinions. We have all experienced that unstoppable friend or that religious fanatic that would enthusiastically get into an argument with anyone who dares to challenge, even mildly, his ironclad opinions.

They are so focused on their intellectual pursuit that they can easily forget to look at the the bigger picture. The Knight of Swords may become obsessive and will sacrifice others and their feelings for his ideas. He is determined but sometimes, if he doesn’t find a worthy ideal, may become a rebel without cause.

As a person a Knight of Swords could be a lawyer, an economist or simply an impatient and self absorbed youth. This card can also represent a conflictual situation that requires you to follow your head more than your heart.

Or, by another hand, you may find yourself in a position where you clearly know what you want and how to get it but, before you act, it is worth pausing a moment and asking yourself if you are fighting the right battle.

Reversed Tarot Card Definitions

An aggressive young person. A bully. Rashness. Impatience. Unfocused behavior. Avoid impulsive decisions. Someone may act aggressively toward you or actively oppose your projects.

When this card comes out reversed or in an adverse position, your plans are opposed or simply you might be lacking the focus and decision necessary to reach your goal. Maybe you display a passive acceptance of a situation that requires instead swift and decisive action. Or, you seem oblivious to the fact that it is time to put aside the sword and listen to the reasons of others.
