Tarot - The Truth Behind the Death Card
This is not your grandmother's Tarot! Today, readings are more compassion-based and psychological. Many respected professional readers use the Tarot as a springboard for productive ideas, and self-help and self-examination for their clients.
Unless you ask specifically about a tall dark stranger or upcoming travel plans, you're not likely to hear anything about either of these. Today's cards emphasize hope.
Meanings Behind the Death Card
Yes, it may still have a scary picture, although many new decks have eased up on that, too. Today, most experienced readers call the card Death and Rebirth. And they're usually not talking about physical death. They're talking about the death of a bad habit, perhaps - like smoking. The Death card could mean that you are letting the smoking habit die; and you will consequently be reborn into better health.
The Death card can also mean the death of a relationship that has been troubling. And from letting that toxic relationship die, you are re-born into a life that is more joyful.
If you are asking the Tarot cards about money or business, the Death card could represent the death of a business that is not bringing in enough money or a job that is unsatisfying. Where there is a void, something new - like a better job or business - can come in to fill it.
Sometimes the Death card can seem to bring bad news. Perhaps you've asked about your marriage and you get the Death card. It could indeed point to the marriage falling apart. If that's the case, however, that's something that you've known already - in your own heart. You must trust that if this marriage ends, it's because there is something better waiting for you.
Still, you might get the Death card when asking about marriage, only to realize that it means there is a part of your marriage that will fall away (die) in order to bring the two of you closer together. That could mean a bad habit - too much partying perhaps. It could mean a re-joining, if the two of you have been separated.
The point is, you must frame your Death card in a way that is helpful to you, not in a way that simply scares you. There is no purpose in getting a reading if you're going to come away from it worrying more than when you went into it. You might try a reading at the Psychic Tea Shoppe [http://www.psychicteashoppe.com], and see for yourself that the meanings behind the cards are geared toward self-improvement rather than dire predictions.
When the Death Card Means Physical Death
It will never ever connote physical death, unless there's an extraordinary circumstance - such as an elderly friend or relative that's suffering terribly from a terminal disease and has expressed a desire to be released. Even in this scenario, the Death card is not proclaiming the person's impending departure. It is simply reiterating the person's existing condition and desires, or noting a trend in the person's deteriorating health.
You Are Always In Control
Remember - a Tarot card cannot cause death. In fact, it can't cause anything at all. Tarot cards merely suggest patterns, wants and desires, or ideas for further study. Never let a reading frighten you - that's not what readings are for. Frame the cards' information in a creative way that helps you search inside yourself for your own answers. Ultimately, you do have all the answers inside you already. The Tarot is one of many tools that can help bring these answers out.
